The AHG Story

1952

Automotive Holdings Group can trace its origins back to 1952 when City Motors was established as a Holden Dealership in Perth.

1955

Following the success of City Motors, City Motors Holdings Ltd listed on the Perth Stock Exchange in 1955.

1962

City Motors Holdings Ltd opened its second Holden Dealership, North City Holden,in 1962. Further Dealerships were established and acquired in prime locations across the Perth metropolitan area, many of which remain key retail sites for AHG today.

1979

In 1979, AHG diversified from automotive retailing into logistics through the acquisition of the AMCAP business, one of Western Australia’s largest automotive parts distribution centres.

1980

City Motors Holdings Ltd remained a listed company until 1980 when it was privatised through a management buyout led by current Directors Vernon Wheatley and Robert Branchi.

1986

AHG diversified further in 1986 when it acquired Rand Transport, now a national logistics operation offering refrigerated transport, cold storage and local distribution services.

1980-1990's

In automotive retailing, AHG continued to build on its leading position in the Perth metropolitan marketplace through the 1980s and 1990s, with a focus on building a portfolio of Dealerships offering leading automotive brands and developing multiple revenue streams within individual Dealerships.

1994

In 1994, AHG was granted the exclusive Australian distribution rights for prestigious Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM Sportmotorcycles.

2005

2005 has seen a number of significant developments at AHG including the decision to move towards the introduction of external equity capital and a listing on the ASX.

On 31 March 2005, the Company undertook the Restructure to put in place a corporate structure suitable for the Offer. The Restructure included the separation of the core automotive retailing and logistics businesses that now form AHG from the property assets. AHG has negotiated long term lease agreements on standard commercial terms with APPL (and other related parties) to secure the prime automotive retail sites.

The Restructure also involved changes to AHG’s capital structure to reflect the requirements of a public listed company, including a decision to pay out the Working Capital Loans and other financial arrangements.

2005 has also seen significant operational developments, notably the acquisition of a majority stake in the Perth Auto Alliance and a decision to embark on a major growth initiative in Rand Transport on the Eastern seaboard.

AHG is now the largest vehicle dealer group in Western Australia, with high profile passenger and commercial vehicle Dealerships throughout the Perth metropolitan area.

AHG operates 86 Dealerships, from 4 Australian States and New Zealand.

AHG has franchises covering 9 out of the top 10 leading passenger vehicle brands in Australia by sales volume which provides a level of protection against shifts in consumer preference. The Group generates income from the sale of new and used cars, finance and insurance, service and parts.

Today, AHG is a diversified automotive retail and logistics group looking to grow through applying its proven management and acquisition skills to a range of organic and acquisitive growth opportunities.
