On Wednesday 28 February 2018, the Australian Government issued a compulsory recall for vehicles with frontal Takata airbag inflators that use phase-stabilised ammonium nitrate propellant without a desiccant, following a safety investigation by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

How will vehicles be rectified?
The inflator inside the air bag assembly will be replaced by an Authorised Dealer depending on the make of the vehicle at no cost to the customer.
How will customers that purchased a second-hand vehicle be notified of this Recall?
Manufacturers gather information from their own database and a national database from the Road Traffic Authorities around Australia. Second-hand vehicles are included in the notification process and the repairs are also completed free of charge for these owners.
What is the brand of the air bag that is being fitted to my vehicle?
The brand of replacement component depends on the vehicle model. Some models are fitted with brand new replacement Takata components.
Should I visit my closest dealer now?
When the parts are ready, the dealer will contact you to arrange a suitable time for your local dealership to replace your airbag. It will be a staggered recall, so once your airbag is ready, they should be in touch.
